Sell My House

How to Sell Your House

Selling your home can be a lengthy business, which is why Sell or Yell is here to help you sell your home fast when you need to.

However, whether you want to sell your home fast, or you have the time to wait for a buyer, there are several things you can to help the process along.

With so many properties on the market, it’s important to make yours stand out. Here are a few tips to help you sell your home.

I need to sell my house

You’ve probably seen those TV programmes that show you how you can prepare your home for the market. Well, we’ve put our own list of tips together.

1. DIY

For most of us, any work that needs doing around the house means one thing – DIY. But many of us are guilty of starting a job, but not finishing it.

Take a good look round your home, how many unfinished jobs are there? When a potential buyer looks round your property, it is things like these that could either put them off or lead them to offering a figure well below your asking price.

2. Where’s the carpet?

It’s amazing what you can live with, but your potential buyers might not be so forgiving. Cluttered rooms, untidy children’s bedrooms and stacks of books and videos may have become part of your family, but they will most certainly put people off. They won’t be expecting a glistening show home, but they will expect you to have made an effort.

3. Let it sparkle

A clean house is a saleable house. Potential buyers will spot dirt a mile off and a dirty house, in their book, is an unloved house.

4. Looks matter

Although it is essential the interior of your home is spick and span, don’t neglect the outside.

The outside of your property has to be enticing enough to draw them in and get them to walk through the front door. Make sure you tend the garden, sweep the driveway and ensure it has an aspirational feel to it. We wouldn’t suggest going so far as hiring a supercar to park in the drive, but if you can make the house look right you’ll be on to a winner.

5. Be neutral

If you really can’t get away with marketing your property without decorating it first, stick to neutral colours. If you want to add colour, do it through accessories. Remember, potential buyers have to be able to see themselves living there and shocking pink walls with black carpet isn’t going to be to everyone’s taste.

6. Keep it lived in

When potential buyers look round a property they try to visualise themselves living there. That is a much easier thing to do when it’s furnished.

An unfurnished property looks cold and uninviting and may well put people off.
